Audio: 'Simon Peter Sifted As Wheat - By The Grace of God' JN Darby 1800-1882  (Lk. 22:14-34)

JN Darby (1800-1882) was a voluminous author, and at the forefront of the Plymouth Brethren movement of the early to mid 19th century on into the early 20th century. The Plymouth Brethren distinguished themselves as staunch proponents of Dispensationalism, including pre-tribulational rapture eschatology. JN Darby is to this day vigorously derided by opponents of these views, which is another subject, not to be entered into here. Here now is an interesting thing though. While Darby's writings are prodigious, an internet search for audios of Darby's writings returned exactly zero results. Not a one could be found. This being the case, it seemed a thing to be rectified. Many have heard the name but have never heard or read any of Darby's work. So here now is an online JND audio - if not the first, one of very few. It is a short teaching [17:50 min.] on the passage in Luke 22 the 'Sifting as Wheat' of Simon Peter. It is quite excellent actually. Some very good things in it for the careful listener. [*Note: audio a robo-voice - MS 'David' - slightly speeded up, tone lowered, definitely 'listenable to' - effort required yes - but this is something that cannot be found elsewhere - 18 min.]

Luke 22:31,33 - 'Simon, Simon, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift thee as wheat' were the words spoken by the Lord Jesus to Simon Peter. Note Peter's response:

'And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death'

Peter said "I am _________". There it is. "I am". These are words to be handled very carefully. "I AM or I am" is how God identifies himself: Exodus 3:13-14; John 8:58

Note also that Judas who received from the Jews payment to betray the Lord Jesus unto the Romans is also seen in the Luke 22 passage in contrast to Peter [vss. 21-22]. This is brought out in the audio. Judas was revealed to be nothing but chaff, blown away entirely by the wind. Not so though with Peter, wherein by the grace of God in Christ Jesus, grain of wheat was brought forth:

I think many of us are experiencing a "sifting" these days (I know this is occurring in my life right now and has been for almost a year). This "sifting" will either produce more fruit, for the glory of God, our Heavenly Father, or will expose rotten fruit. Getting through this "sifting" with the Lord's desired results will take the complete grace of God ONLY, to accomplish this. No can do in the flesh!!!!!!! If that is the case, then anger, frustration, resentment, anxiety and hostility will result, thus rendering us of no use for His glory. His light will not be shown brightly in this dark world. We can have joy and peace during this "sifting" IF we will surrender our will to the Lord's will. God Bless!
